RemotelyAnywhere 4.70, prodotto da 3AM, non è certo il software di controllo remoto il più completo del gruppo, né offre prestazioni di livello particolarmente elevato. È però, grazie a tutti i tool di cui dispone, uno dei prodotti più interessanti per gli amministratori di rete. Ad esempio, è particolarmente indicato per chi gestisce una rete di computer e passa parte del proprio tempo fuori dall’ufficio, visto che permette di utilizzare anche un semplice telefono cellulare per accedere ai server dell’azienda e applicare loro qualche rapida modifica.

Il setup è estremamente rapido, e non richiede altro che l’installazione del programma sul sistema host. RemotelyAnywhere prevede sei livelli di sicurezza, che includono il filtro degli indirizzi Ip e il blocco di indirizzi specifici, l’autenticazione tramite password e via dicendo.




		Uno dei punti di forza di RemotelyAnywhere è la disponibilità di numerosi tool per l’amministrazione a distanza del Pc. Appena si lancia l’applicazione - che gira all’interno di un normale browser Web - si hanno immediatamente a disposizione numerose informazioni sul sistema host e diversi strumenti per mettere mano alla sua configurazione.

È inoltre previsto il supporto a Ssl e Ssh (OpenSSH 3.5) per cifrare la comunicazione tra i computer con chiavi a 128 bit. Il client da utilizzare sul guest è una normale applicazione Java, che si può scaricare direttamente dall’host. Questo significa che ci si può collegare all’host ed aprire una sessione di controllo remoto da qualunque computer dotato di una connessione ad Internet e di un browser Web in grado di gestire Java. Il rovescio della medaglia è la necessità - almeno per il primo collegamento - di affrontare il download dell’applet, che specie su linee lente può risultare un po’ lungo. RemotelyAnywhere peraltro ha dimostrato tempi di connessione e prestazioni piuttosto bassi, specialmente lavorando con lo schermo in modalità a 32 bit e con un modem a 56 kbps. Se si usa un collegamento telefonico, la scelta migliore è quella di abbandonare le impostazioni di default e passare alla modalità a 256 colori, per migliorare i tempi di risposta. Tale discorso non vale naturalmente per le connessioni ad alta velocità, che permettono a RemotelyAnywhere di gestire in modo ottimale e con fluidità tutti gli elementi grafici del desktop di Windows.

Le funzioni standard di RemotelyAnywhere - come l’utilizzo in remoto del desktop, il trasferimento di file e la chat testuale tra host e guest - sono in generale di buon livello; ciò in cui il programma brilla realmente è però l’amministrazione remota. Al momento del log-on, una pagina Html permette di accedere a quasi tutte le funzioni amministrative disponibili sul sistema host. Tale pagina mostra dettagli come la versione del Bios e quella del sistema operativo, più alcune informazioni sull’utilizzo di Cpu e memoria.




		Il client per il controllo remoto del desktop offerto da RemotelyAnywhere è una semplice applet java. Per utilizzare tale feature è quindi necessario scaricare il programma ad ogni connessione, a meno che l’applet sia rimasta nella cache del browser. In tale modo si evita l’installazione del programma su più computer, ma se si lavora su connessioni lente il download ripetuto del client può essere seccante.

È possibile tenere sotto controllo e se necessario intervenire su molti aspetti del sistema operativo host, tra cui l’elenco dei processi attivi al suo interno, dei servizi e dei driver dei dispositivi; RemotelyAnywhere consente inoltre di modificare il Registro di configurazione e di effettuare un riavvio della macchina (anche in condizioni di emergenza, per ripristinare il sistema host anche in caso di malfunzionamento). La pagina System Information mostra anche informazioni sulla configurazione degli slot Pci, sulle porte di comunicazioni aperte e sulle librerie Dll attualmente in uso. Oltre alla connessione attraverso il client Web, RemotelyAnywhere include un server Ftp per il trasferimento di file. È inoltre possibile aprire sessioni telnet e utilizzare in remoto il prompt di Windows della macchina host, feature utile per amministratori che hanno bisogno di eseguire degli script.

Per finire, è molto comoda la capacità di RemotelyAnywhere di connettersi all’host attraverso un Pda o un telefono cellulare Wap. Non si effettua naturalmente un vero controllo remoto attraverso schermi tanto piccoli, ma si ha accesso all’elenco dei driver, a quello dei processi e al visualizzatori, oltre che a funzioni come il reboot in remoto del computer host.

My only problem with the analysis is given that much of the population joined the chorus of deregulatory mythology given vested interest is inclined toward perpetuation of the current system and given a lack of a popular cheerleader for your arguments I'm not seeing much in the way of change.
