Dall’e-book alla biblioteca 2.0
L’industria del libro sta per essere rivoluzionata. E con essa il concetto stesso di archivio
Qual è il futuro del libro? E a quali cambiamenti vanno incontro biblioteche e archivi? Due domande fondamentali dopo l’affermarsi di Amazon Kindle e altri lettori di e-book. In ballo non c’è solo la possibilità di fruire dei contenuti in modo nuovo. Uno dei più grandi meriti delle nuove tecnologie è stato quello di ridisegnare intere filiere produttive, dalla musica allo shopping, dal turismo al mondo del lavoro.
La prossima potrebbe essere l’industria del libro. Ne parla Tom Coughlin, presidente di Coughlin & Associates Ltd, azienda americana che si occupa di comunicazione e investimenti. L’affermarsi degli e-book, sostiene l’autore, renderà più economico produrli e distribuirli, assicurando un maggiore accesso alle informazioni da parte degli utenti.
Le nuove tecnologie offrono inoltre una serie di possibilità sconosciute a carta e inchiostro. Tra le più significative, poter effettuare ricerche nel testo mediante parole chiave e utilizzare gli strumenti Segnalibro. O, ancora, una maggiore facilità nel citare frasi o passaggi ritenuti significativi, semplicemente copiando e incollando il testo.
“Blog, Wikipedia e forum online per scrittori – spiega Coughlin – sono solo l’inizio di un fenomeno fatto di informazioni e opinioni scritte su qualsiasi argomento.” Di conseguenza la biblioteca 2.0 dovrà adattarsi, catalogando una mole crescente di volumi in formato elettronico e garantendone il pubblico accesso da parte dell’utenza.
Qualche esempio c’è già. Come Internet Archive, non-profit di San Francisco nata nel 1996 per diventare la prima biblioteca pubblica virtuale. L’archivio contiene testi, file audio, immagini, software e pagine web. Ogni anno il portale viene consultato da migliaia di ricercatori, studenti ma anche semplici appassionati. Il futuro del libro potrebbe passare per realtà come questa.
