MySpace Music: accordo per la musica indie
La community musicale si allea con IODA, uno dei massimi distributori indipendenti online
Si vede che accuse di superficialità hanno colto nel segno. Dopo essere stato preso di mira con l’accusa di fare distinzione tra canzoni di serie A e di serie B, MySpace Music prova a spegnere il fuoco della polemica alleandosi con Independent Online Distribution Alliance (Ioda), uno dei massimi distributori online al mondo di musica indie.
Secondo l’accordo reso noto ieri IODA metterà a disposizione di MySpace Music il suo attuale catalogo: circa un milione di canzoni per 50 mila artisti. L’obiettivo, come dichiarato da Chris De Wolfe – cofondatore e attuale amministratore delegato di MySpace – non è solo diversificare l’offerta, guardando oltre al panorama delle major, ma anche “fornire ai musicisti gli strumenti necessari per proseguire al meglio nella propria carriera, rimanendo in contatto con i loro fan.”
Il catalogo IODA racchiude infatti migliaia di etichette provenienti da più di 50 Paesi, tra cui Ace Records, Bonnier Amigo, Cherry Red Records, Cooking Vinyl, Demon Music Group, Fat Cat Records e Relapse: tutti nomi che oggi potrebbero beneficiare (e non poco) della possibilità di entrare in contatto con un pubblico più ampio.
MySpace Music ha annunciato di recente il lancio di nuovi strumenti di condivisione “user-to-user”, oltre a opportunità di e-commerce per gli artisti, tra cui la vendita di merchandising e biglietti dei concerti. La nuova funzionalità è già disponibile per gli utenti statunitensi e per quelli della community MySpace en Español.
Ora resta da capire se questa apertura nei confronti della musica alternativa avrà un seguito finanziario e gestionale. Come noto, le major partecipano al capitale azionario di MySpace Music, ma è presto per dire se questo privilegio verrà esteso alle altre case discografiche.
